Jakarta: Program IVF or in vitro fertilization (IVF) is often the choice for couples who have difficulty having children. And sometimes, not only burden the body undergoing IVF program, but also emotional and mental well-being .

After the embryo transfer procedure (also known as ET or embryo transfer), couples who are undergoing IVF program will usually have a Two Weeks Waiting (TWW) or waiting period.

During this waiting period, here are things you can do:

1. Choice of food intake

"Intake of good food with balanced nutrition is one of the important points that can make implantation of an embryo in the uterus successful," explained dr. Aida Riyanti, Sp.OG-KFER, M.RepSc as a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology consultant fertility, endocrinology, and reproduction who practices at Pondok Indah IVF Center Hospital.

In his written statement, dr. Aida mentions that this is a good time to embrace the healthy eating habits recommended for pregnant women. Ideally, expectant mothers should eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as foods rich in calcium, protein, B vitamins, and iron.

2. Consumption of folic acid

Folic acid can also be included in the daily menu. There are many benefits of taking folic acid before and during pregnancy.

"Pregnant women need about 0.4 mg per day to prevent neural tube defects. In addition, research shows that folic acid can reduce the chances of babies having cleft lip or palate," said dr. Aida.

Folic acid is also associated with a lower risk of congenital heart defects in babies. Intake of folic acid can be obtained from spinach, asparagus, broccoli, avocado, tomatoes, oranges, lemons, beets, peanuts, kidney beans, green beans, peas, and walnuts, poultry, beef liver, red meat, chicken liver , seafood and eggs.

3. Avoid sexual activity and sports

"Although it is not scientifically proven that intercourse is a contraindication after embryo transfer or during pregnancy, uterine contractions due to orgasm can be a worrying thing. For this reason, sexual activity related to penile penetration into the vagina should not be carried out in the first place," said dr. . Aida.

IVF patients are recommended to lead a normal daily lifestyle during this waiting period. However, high-intensity exercise, such as aerobics or running, should not be carried out until clinical confirmation of pregnancy is obtained.

"Better, choose low-intensity exercise such as walking, yoga, and meditation with a duration of 30 minutes per day," concluded dr. Aida.
