Sipping a glass of antioxidant-rich tea can also help fight aging, but not all types of tea have the same anti-aging benefits. Then, what kind of tea is best for fighting aging?

Green tea benefits

“In terms of anti-aging properties, green tea has no equal. Green tea contains an antioxidant called epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, which is effective at rejuvenating aging skin cells,” says Michael Garrico, nutritionist and co-founder of TotalShape.

Green tea is rich in B vitamins and vitamin E, both of which are important for healthy skin. Furthermore, Garrico added that vitamin B2 can help keep skin youthful and firm. Meanwhile, vitamin E encourages the growth of new skin cells and makes skin softer and more radiant.

"Green tea is packed with antioxidants, which have a wide range of health benefits, from preventing disease, reducing inflammation, and potentially even preventing cancer. This fact alone makes green tea an excellent beverage to drink every day for overall health and longevity, says registered dietitian Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD.

Best also adds, these antioxidants work in the body to prevent and reduce cell damage from toxins and free radicals, which can cause metabolism to slow down significantly.

"The body normally gets its antioxidants generally from plant compounds, phytonutrients, and amino acids in the foods we eat and the herbal teas we drink, such as green tea," Best says.

However, Garrico warns that because of the caffeine content, drinking green tea for long periods or in high doses (more than 8 cups per day) may be harmful.

“This can cause headaches, nervousness, trouble sleeping, vomiting, diarrhea, irritability, irregular heartbeat, tremors, heartburn, dizziness, ringing in the ears, and seizures. Green tea also contains chemicals, which when consumed in large quantities associated with liver damage, "concludes Garrico.
