Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that in Indonesia, as many as 177 mothers experienced the risk of death from 100,000 births in 2017. Meanwhile, in 2015, 13.2 percent of babies were born dead for every 1,000 births.

The mortality risk rate can be reduced if the expectant mothers do not neglect to pay attention to nutritional intake and a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy . Doctor. Agnes Mallipu, Acting Country Representative from GAIN Indonesia, a non-profit organization that has a concern for helping community nutrition improvement programs, gave an explanation.

According to dr. Agnes, mothers need to pay attention to nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Precisely during pregnancy until the child is two years old. It is a period that really needs special attention in order to grow and develop children .

"Unfortunately, there are still many mothers-to-be who are not aware of this," said dr. Agnes.

Many do not realize that the period of pregnancy until the child is two years old, or the first 1,000 days of life, is a very important period in child development.

"GAIN's collaboration program with the Ministry of Health to improve the nutritional status of the community has been carried out since 2017, including the nutrition improvement program in the First 1,000 Days of Life," said dr. Agnes Mallipu.

The implementation of health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic has various impacts. One of the reasons is that some interactive-educative activities for pregnant women and mothers with children under two years old (BADUTA), such as the Emo Demo module at the Posyandu cannot be carried out face-to-face.

"In response to this situation, GAIN took the initiative to create an Android-based interactive game to continue to be able to reach mothers in providing information and triggering behavior change so that they always maintain health and consume nutritious food during pregnancy, especially during this pandemic," explained dr. Agnes Mallipu.

The game, which is named KIMO, aims to increase awareness and stimulate changes in the healthy lifestyle of expectant mothers, to pay more attention to nutrition and health during pregnancy.

The name KIMO itself is an acronym for Kids and Mom. This game was developed with a 'Self-determination Theory' approach that can motivate pregnant women to adopt new healthy habits.
