The clinical director at Bupa Health Clinics, Dr Elizabeth Rogers, predicts that one of the health trends that will increase in 2022 is Mindfulness . This term is also experiencing a spike in Google search engines in 2021.

Dr Rogers revealed that research results show doing mindfulness combined with exercise can have many benefits for the body . Including lowering the risk of depression, and increasing endurance.

So what is mindfulness ? Mindfulnessis the basic human ability to be fully aware of what is happening around them and what they are doing, and not to be overly reactive to what is happening around them. Every human being has this ability, they just need to learn to access and do it.

According to the Cambridge dictionary, mindfulness is the practice of being aware of your body, mind, and feelings in the present moment, thinking to create a feeling of calm.

Types of mindfulness exercises

Quoted from the mindful page, there are three types of mindfulness exercises that can be done, here are examples:
  • Meditation sitting, walking, standing, and moving (may also lie down but often causes sleep)
  • A short pause, entering into daily life
  • Combining meditation practice with other activities, such as yoga or exercise.

Benefits of mindfulness

Many benefits are obtained from practicing mindfulness for health, especially mental. Here are some of the benefits of mindfulness:

When in mindfulness, there are many benefits such as reduced stress, improved performance, gain insight and awareness through observing one's own mind, and increased attention to the well-being of others.

2. Enjoy life

Mindfulness meditation can make you feel the joy of life. By training your mind in a mindfulness way, you will feel calmer and less stressed. This can make you enjoy life more.

3. Loving yourself

By training your mind with mindfulness, you will appreciate and love yourself for who you are. If you've been feeling less in love with yourself, this practice might be worth a try.
